 1. General Aims of the Charity:
We are looking for a concise description of the purposes of your organisation. Perhaps explain a bit about your activities, type of issues you tackle, etc.

2. Details of management structure & staff:
Please provide us with brief details of the people who run your organisation (staff and board/committee members.) It would be helpful if you could highlight the skills of key people within the organisation.

3. Details of Funding from States Sources:
It would be helpful to be aware of funding you currently receive from states departments or parish authorities. Please provide amounts and timescales.

4. Financial Information for the last 3 years
This section must be fully completed and be accompanied by a copy of your most recent audited accounts together with a copy of your Bank Statement to verify your account number so that any grant may be paid directly into the account.

Comments
This area allows you to explain the key issues relating to your financial position, depending on your organisation's financial profile. E.g.

  • why is expenditure reducing/growing
  • what is the reason for growth/decline in income
  • what is the reason for growth/decline in cash holdings

There can be positive or negative reasons for any changes in your financialposition. It is vital that we are aware of underlying reasons to allow us to build a complete picture of your operation.

6. Purpose of this Appeal:
Please try to be as specific as you can about what the additional funding can achieve for the people you serve.

6a. Expected Outcome from Appeal:

Please state evidence you will use to confirm these outcomes have been achieved. Different evidence of levels of success may be required for a multiple funding request.

7. Funding already received for this Appeal:
Please provide a breakdown of amounts raised to date for this appeal (this sould comprise both donations received and those for which firm commitments are in place). There is no good or bad answer to this question, however for community projects we are particularly interested to learn of local fundraising efforts.

8. Please provide a detailed breakdown of costs within the total appeal:
It is extremely helpful to have a detailed list of requirements.

We are happy for you to highlight which items/activities you consider most urgent.

9. If the project is ongoing how is the project to be staffed in the future:
There are many restraints on staffing in the channel islands. It will be helpful to know if staff requirements will come from existing headcount or if you will be seeking to increase your headcount, and if so, will permission from the states be forthcoming?

11. Plans for future fund raising towards this appeal, and the date by which full funding should be achieved:
In this section we are attempting to assess the likelihood of ultimate fulfilment of your goals. Clearly if we are part funding an appeal, we must become confident that it will succeed. Where we make a grant early in an appeal, we may make its release conditional on another event, e.g.

  • On reaching 50% funding
  • On confirmation that an order for a capital item is in place
  • On confirmation that a new staff member has been appointed

We will try to time our donation as close to the point of use as possible.

12. Who will benefit from the money raised by this appeal and how?
It is always helpful to see the benefits quantified. Please try to create as clear a picture as possible as to what any donation may achieve.

Numbers can be powerful, e.g.

  • 'increase the number of people benefiting from support from 20 to 40 by…'
  • 'support the 600 people in the channel islands suffering from this illness'
  • 'increase our minibus service to include 2 new youth groups'

13. What security/safety aspects have been considered, not only in respect of this appeal, but regarding the organisation in general?

This is an important question, particularly when children/young people.. Are involved. The following examples are typical areas which require clarification:

  • What is your recruitment process i.e. References/vetting procedures?
  • Have staff received appropriate training?
  • What type of seatbelts are fitted to minibuses?
  • Are any proposed building alterations properly supervised & insurance in place?

14. Only complete this part is you would like us to consider revenue/ salary funding within the appeal detailed in paragraph. 8.

(i) we need to set limits on the level of our future years income which we can commit in advance and therefore awards granted over 2 or more years must be considered against that restriction.

(ii) we will pay particular attention to your plans beyond the period over which we may support them. This will allow us to asses the on-going need for the service and potential funding sources beyond our grant period.

(iii) please be as realistic as possible in setting clearly measurable objectives as they will form the basis for the annual progress review . Thought should be given to how you plan to measure and monitor these objectives.
